REGIONALISM AS KCK'S NICHE AND COMPARATIVE ADVANTAGE

In view of fostering the benefits of regional cooperation, with the establishment of the East Africa Community, KCK provides a regional institutional framework for the promotion of constitutionalism good governance and democratic development in East Africa. The tendency of most stakeholders is to act in a manner that meets the exigencies of the moment or that address a particular crisis. These efforts are local in nature and often represent short-term solutions.
Few institutions are equipped with the capacity or design to adopt long-term perspectives on constitutional issues and to consider them within the framework of general constitutional development. As a regional institution, KCK is uniquely and strategically placed to use its regional placement as a conduit for negotiation between government and civil society, from a vantage point that is different from that provided by national organizations. KCK’s application of a comparative analysis of issues of constitutionalism makes it a strong advocacy and pressure group. KCK therefore encapsulates the varied dimensions of constitutional reform and transition that are taking place within the region and brings them within a single framework.

In summation, KCK is a catalyst regional organization for constitutional development and EAC implementation as well as a facilitator towards East Africaness.
